That was some of the most spectacular and difficult hiking I've ever done! Zipper, or Desiree asked if she could hike along with me through the challenging section today.
I just saw some blue sky over the Big Lava bed next to camp. That's the first blue sky I've seen today. Last night's campspot became a constant tree shower when blowing fog rolled in around midnight.
It's almost hiker midnight. My latest adventure is on the PCT in Washington again completing the Indian heaven section that I bailed on last year after getting soaked for a day and a half on Mount Adams.
Got an early start today as I knew it would warm up quickly. It got really hot today. My blisters got worse. Went through some pretty areas though and took a much needed swim at Mirror lake.
Tonight I'm camped at mile 2374 on an abandoned logging track about 100 yards from a nice spring. Apparently, about a quarter mile down the same road at a turnaround is where everybody else is camped.
I'm camped on a little ridge at the northern base of Blowout mountain. My tent is mere inches from the trail this time! I'm at mile 2355.3 which means I did 20 miles today!
I did about 17 grueling but beautiful miles today. I found a spot next to a huge talus field full of pikas. I thought this would be a low concentration bug area as it hasn't been as bad north of Chinook pass.
Did about 18 miles today and I'm camped at Dewey lake. I'm fully suited up after taking a brief dunk in the lake. Tons of bugs here at this nice sandy lakeshore but even worse up at camp.
Round three of the PCT began today. Starting at White Pass this afternoon around 3 pm when my lovely wife dropped me off. Not too bad of a start, a little warm and kind of dusty, and horse poopy.
Actually it's the next day from home, but it was a long day yesterday. Broke camp at 6:30! Made it up to Three Corner Rock and back to the PCT by 8:00 am.
Well, I'm finally back on the PCT! After a nice day in Cascade Locks and dinner in Stevenson my wonderful wife dropped me off in Stabler at the start of a 30 mile southbound adventure back to Cascade Locks and hopefully, my fully intact car.
Managed to break camp around 9 am or so after waiting for the rain to stop so I could pack up the tent. It rained off and on all night but I managed to stay dry.
Well, it was dry most of the day. Early this morning around 4 am I woke up to some light drizzle on the tent. It only lasted 30 or 40 minutes. When I got up at about 6 am everything was pretty much dry.
Mosquitos are driving me nuts! I'm camped at about mile 2257 on the map at the end of a little ridge with a pretty good view. Part of the view is of clouds coming in from the south west.

Here I am in the Goat Rocks wilderness doing a section hike from White Pass to the Stabler area on the Wind river. It should work out to about 116 miles.
Well, actually it's much later but that's ok. I did a lot more walking than I should have. As soon as I got on the trail I noticed shooting pains in my knee!
Well, I'm back on the trail again. This time I'm on the final Oregon section, Timberline to Cascade Locks! Started at the lodge at 2:15 pm with hopes of completing the 50 miles in 48 hours.
Wow! Really pretty country is quite the understatement. We are camped on a ridge line meadow just off the PCT right at the border of the Glacier Peaks Wilderness.
It looks like I did 18.5 miles today on trail plus a few short side trips. I’m camped at mile 2050.5 just a little way past a very welcoming spring north of Jude Lake.
Wow, last night was ugly! It’s a good thing I had a good wind break in camp cause it was howling all night long. When it wasn’t raining, it was blowing mist.
Well, I set up camp early because there was a momentary break in the weather—rain that is—lots of it. It started just before I got down to McKenzie Pass.
Not knowing what the Rim Village Cafe on the rim sold, we stopped in...cold case with energy drinks, veggie sticks, pre-made sandwiches and some easy serve items like chili dogs and soup.
What dream you ask? Hiking the PCT. What is it? The Pacific Crest Trail. Sigh-yes, the one in the movie. No, not because of the movie. Actually, I first learned about the trail in the 1970s and decided it was a hike I had to make one day.
