Opened in 2018, one of the coast's newer Natural Area stops, Sitka Sedge State Natural Area made for a very pleasant afternoon's walk-about. The day use area has a moderate amount of parking--expect your car to be in the sun-- vault toilet restrooms, a couple benches, A BICYCLE REPAIR STATION! and an information board. The trail starts off perfectly flat and accesible across a dike with views of the estuary and shore birds. It appears to be a great spot to stretch your legs or walk for several miles. While we were there the Snowy Plover nesting area was under restriction so we missed walking out to the beach--I suppose we could have at the South end, but after waking the dike and both major loops, it was getting rather warm. We found it very humid--you might expect that. Coastal huckleberries were in abundance along the trail. We spotted egret, herons, a hawk, hummingbirds, squirrels, a bunny and, of course, a banana slug. --Sept 14, 2019
