Well, the mist rolled in last night just before dark. In the middle of the night we were in the fog bank. Later in the night it totally cleared out! Come morning it looked beautiful and we had a very nice sunrise that lasted through breakfast. Then, a grayish haze started to cover the sky in all directions. It looked like a very rainy day was going to settle in so we decided to head out sooner than later.
The hike out was quite pretty down through Meander Meadows. Lots of marmots hanging around. The trail after that was kinda brutal. It dropped off like a rock through overgrown meadows on steep switchbacks. When we finally got to the valley floor it was a long slog through mostly hot, jungle-like meadows with only short forested reprieves. It took about 4.5 hours to get to the trailhead, but it seemed like all day. I found out later that massive thunderstorms rolled through the mountains that night with heavy rains and thousands of lightning strikes. Still raining.
