I am camped at Timothy Lake after doing 25 miles today! Yikes—my feet are sore and blistered. I could not find any decent places to camp earlier in the woods. I guess it will be an easy day Thursday going in to Timberline. The trail today was very unremarkable. It was mostly slightly downhill and packed dirt. It made for easy walking. I made it to Warm Springs River at 14 miles by 1:00pm I think. I hung out there for awhile with other thru-hikers.
Last night the wind picked up right at sundown. It continued to build all night. It kept me awake thinking I was going to get crushed by all the standing dead timber around me. That had me a little stressed. It got worse at sunrise so I packed up and was down the trail by 6:30am. I was glad to be out of there! I ate breakfast down the trail in a much less windy spot. (Note: on August 27, Finn,
a German hiker on the PCT lost his life as strong winds caused a standing rotted tree to fall, striking him as he was crossing a trail bridge near Trout Lake, Washington. My condolences go out to his hiking partners, family and friends back home in German.)
