I decided to day hike a couple sections of the OCT that I skipped this summer while backpacking.
Started by driving to Taft and catching the bus north to Devils Lake State Park where I had previously camped. I then hiked the 3 or so miles south on the beach on this nice fall day. There were quite a few seals hauled out on the Siletz spit across the channel.
I then hopped in the car and drove south a few miles to Gleneden Beach and parked about 1/4 mile from the bus stop. When the bus came I rode it south to Depoe Bay and started hiking north back to the car. This section of trail involved a lot of near highway walking mostly in the utility right of way on a nicely maintained trail. Sometimes it ducked into the woods more and was quite pleasant with some great views here and there of hidden coves and such. The trail then dumps you into Fogarty Creek day use area. Very woodsy and nice.
After that it's on to Fishing Rock which was a cool little area and finally a few miles of beach back to the
car.
The second section was around 6 miles. Pretty nice hiking. Probably
would have been OK to walk while backpacking as long as you could get
the bus around Siletz Bay.
