9:45 p.m. I'm camped at a mystery location somewhere near Pacific city. It's a nice spot in the woods with my tent set up on some nice thick moss. There are lots of hungry mosquitoes out here. I can actually hear a band playing at a bar in town.
Leaving camp this morning I found a gated
gravel park road and followed through some nice woods where it dead ended just short of the Cape Road. A short but nasty bushwhack got me back to road walking. The trail from the campground to the top of the Cape is closed. In less than an hour I was walking on trail down the
other side of the Cape. It was a nice beach walk until the Sand lake ATV area. Wow! What a zoo.
Next I was confronted with my first major water
crossing. There was no chance in hell of getting across the mouth of Sand Lake. It was huge! I followed the northernmost channel inland and
crossed over to Whalen Island without incident. It was only about knee to mid thigh deep at low tide.
At the campground I waited a few minutes for the free bus to take me to Sitka Sedge which saved about a mile of road walking. The stretch from Terra Del Mar to Cape Kiwanda was packed with people and vehicles. Lots of Kite gliders up on the Cape. The beach in front of pelican brewery was kinda insane with people.
My feet are sunburned and blistered so I was lucky to find a nice wine shop down the way I had a glass and some good snacks.
Tomorrow I hope to take a bus past the road walk section.
