9:00 p.m.

Well, I made it to Manzanita with an hour and a half to spare. After getting the car I went to the farmers market which was very well attended and scored a delicious grilled ham and cheese sandwich for dinner. After getting some snacks for tomorrow I headed out to the Nehalem bay hiker camp.

The camp is pretty nice. It's all on

its own near the check-in station. Talked with a couple ladies on a

northbound OCT trip. They started out as Oregon PCT'ers but we're

stopped before crater lake by deep snow.

This morning went OK except for not having enough water. The trail was really overgrown in places especially leading up to Cape falcon. Then the regular muddy stretch was really muddy. I had breakfast at short Sand Beach after getting water finally. Great spot as always. Then the steep hike up to elk flats. The highway walking wasn't bad--the work-around for the closed section of the Neahkanie mountain trail. Great views!  I took the new trail that

starts at Neahkanie South. Then on down into Manzanita. I think I'll

hike out to the end of the spit tomorrow and then head home.

A few days later I drove down to Garibaldi and hopped the bus up to the south side of Nehalem bay to finish up that section as a day hike.

Very nice little section. With the low tide I was able to stay along the

water most of the way between the Tillamook bay jetty and Garibaldi only having to walk a short section of railroad tracks in the beginning. I

learned it was possible from a couple that had just hiked a short section through there and were waiting for the same bus as I was.
