7:15 p.m. Well, it was dry most of the day. Early this morning around 4 am I woke up to some light drizzle on the tent. It only lasted 30 or 40 minutes.
When I got up at about 6 am verything was pretty much dry. The hike today was pretty boring. A lot of straight, dusty trail.
Midway Meadows was kind of nice and the lava field was cool. It was a relief to finally get up on the mountain and out of the lowlands. Killen creek was pretty, with good water. I spent a while there getting cleaned up and sitting in the sun afterwards. No place to camp there as it was all low, damp meadows. So, I moved on checking out the many ridges and canyons and finding nothing! Went all the way to Adams Creek which I decided to cross in the morning instead of this afternoon. So I backtracked just a bit and found a barely serviceable spot.
The rain started as I was putting up the tent. Too bad I lost a good hour searching for a campsite. Made an instant black bean dinner while huddled under a clump of small trees. Stayed mostly dry. Now I'm huddled in my tent wondering if I should go out and hang the food and do other chores before the heavy rain starts up again.
At least there's no mosquitoes.
