That was some of the most spectacular and difficult hiking I've ever done! Zipper--or Desiree-- asked if she could hike along with me through the challenging section today. That was fine as a good hiking partner is a nice thing to have through some tough terrain. I warned her ahead of time that I did not hike at thru-hiker speed.

Headed out at about 7 am after a fairly good night's sleep. It was really warm last night. I have a feeling it will be much cooler in tonight's spot. Pretty decent hiking this morning with plenty of shade and water. Started slowing down a lot near McCall basin as the trail started climbing and the day got much warmer. Thought I was gonna die getting through the basin below Elk Pass.

Got in a good foot and head soak in the upper basin and felt a little better. We saw a bunch of goats just past Elk Pass lounging in the snow well below the trail. It was really hard and slow going over to the other side of Old Snowy Mountain. It was also spectacular! Some of the pretty hiking I've seen! It was nice to visit this area in high summer when there is still plenty of snow and the wildflowers in full bloom. Just beautiful.

Zipper and I parted ways after a shaded break above Snowgrass. She had mileage to make for a room she had reserved for tomorrow night. Me, I needed to rest and look for a campsite. Have to pace myself if I'm going to last until Saturday morning.

Well, it's almost dark and getting chilly.
