4 SEPT 2019

It sure gets dark early these days! Faceplant and I are camped in the Henry M Jackson Wilderness at the junction of the Cady Creek trail and the PCT.  It’s my first time this far north on the trail. We spent last night in Leavenworth and hit the trail around 1pm. The drive up here was long but OK until the pavement ended. After that it’s about 2.5 miles of very narrow jeep road. I made it a little over half way and did not like it one bit. I dropped the packs and the wife and drove back down to a big back-in parking opening I spotted on the way in and we walked the rest of the way to the trailhead. The trailhead parking area was quite nice with a decent toilet and a picnic table all in the shade of big trees.

The hike started out crossing the Little Wenatchee River—very pretty, and then just climbing gently through the woods with lots of nice meadow openings. The trail could realy use some debrushing. After crossing Cady Creek—also very pretty—the trail starts to climb pretty steeply. Luckily there were lots of good berries to munch on the whole way. So now we are camped in a crappy little spot at the junction. Tomorrow we are on to really pretty country.
