Actually, it's the next day (Aug 11th, not the 10th) that I'm writing this because I went home at the end of trail magic.
The next thunderstorm came early Saturday morning around 5:30am and it was brutal. I was laying in the tent debating whether to pack up quick and boogie down to Windigo or wait it out. I chose to wait it out. There was a bunch of lightning right overhead and then the downpour started--hail at first and then heavy rain. It continued for a couple hours. In the meantime, I had everything packed up inside the tent and ready to go. It finally started to let up around 7:30am. At that point I drug myself from the tent and started the wet chore of breaking down the tent. The hike out wasn't bad. There were lots of big puddles but no wet brush to deal with. I actually stayed pretty dry hiking out and it only took about an hour. The sun even came out some, but there were still rumbles in the distance.
Approaching Windigo Pass I saw my beautiful wife with about a dozen hikers gathered around showing down on all the great food she brought. It was definitely a magical morning for all after the nasty storm that had gone through. I'm guessing at least 30 hikers went through while I was there. Everyone left with a smile on their face even as they hiked into uncertain weather. My wife is truly awesome! I decided to head back home for now and get back on the trail again in a week right after PCT days.
