9 AUGUST 2019

7:00 pm. I'm huddled in my little tent out of the wind and rain and lightning. Oh, dinner's ready...

I ate my dinner from inside the tent. It's still a little drippy out there but the wind completely stopped. It was blowing across this ridge at a steady 30 mph. I lucked out and found a dry spot almost big enough for my tent behind some trees. I had to clear a few shrubs. Now I'm seeing a lot of thru's going in both directions. My tent is about 25' from the trail.

I went through more beautiful country, passing by some real cool campsites too. I ran into a group up on the high point at the trail and hung out and had snacks. It stayed pretty cool and overcast today except for late morning when the sun came out for a couple hours. It didn't really look like rain today until around 2:00pm when the black wall came my way from the south. Lots of close lightning, but no rain. Then around 3:30pm when I was off trail getting water at 6 Horse Spring, it hit again with really close lightning and rain. I hunkered down in the trees until it has mostly passed, but then the fierce wind started up. That's when I started looking for a desperation camp and I found it at mile 1876. So, that's about 17 miles today over mostly easy terrain plus a 3/4 mile side trip for water.

I was taking lots of breaks too so I wouldn't end up hiking all the way to Windigo Pass where I get to meet up with my beautiful wife Saturday morning.
