9 JULY 2019

Well, It was really uneventful today which was nice. It started out cloudy and cool and kinda stayed that way most of the morning. It was nice. No big climbs; no big descents. I was hiking by myself till after lunch through lots of big forest and nice meadows south of highway 66, then more nice forest around Hyatt Lake--alot more roads though.

I hiked some with dog lady Jody, and Woodrat and I met up with the other two, Happy Feet and Gravity at Little Hyatt. I went into Campers Cove with Woodrat to check the place out and get a snack.

Oh! Did I mention it started raining just before Hyatt Lake? Not hard but a steady sprinkle that didn't let up until about 5:30 pm. About 6pm we came upon a dry, rocky meadow surrounded by pine trees and that's where I stopped. Woodrat hiked on for another hour or so. After getting camp set, I started cleaning up and discovered my right pinky toe is one big blister. Ouch! Drained and cleaned up now--I'm hoping I won't be hobbled tomorrow. I only have about 26 miles to the highway, then it's another couple miles to Fish Lake.

The mosquitoes are getting me---must retreat!

Oh, forgot to mention, the sandhill cranes. Those strange prehistoric sounds echoing up from the lake. Awesome!
