5 JULY 2019

Well, I put in about 15 trail miles today. Add about another mile for backtracking to this campspot. I didn't look at the map close enough to realize I was headed down into the woods to camp near a road and water. I decided to dry-camp again at a very flat "meadow at about 6,800ft. The view is fantastic. I should have enough water to get through breakfast and then it's only a mile or so downhill to the next water.

Today started with quite a bit of climbing that my body wasn't liking very much. The trail stayed high on the crest most of the way. It wasn't until around 11am when I finally got through all the burned areas. Green trees are much prettier. The wildflowers and diversity of plant life has been amazing. I passed lots of cool campsites along the way. Of course, most of those were in the middle of the day.

Hey, I only have 4 or 5 miles to get into Oregon!

I saw some cool wildlife today-- large mammals with bells around their necks. Really noisy. I hope they don't visit me tonight. Maybe the resident deer that keeps checking on my will keep them away.
